Richmond's David Gonzalvez Named ESPN National Player of Week

Richmond senior guard David Gonzalvez had an outstanding month in February. The Southeast Basketball Academy (SEBA) Alum and former Wheeler High standout was named the National Player of the Week by ESPN.com for the week of Feb. 7 through 13. Gonzalvez averaged 22 points, shot 60% from the field, 50% from the 3, and 82% from the free throw line in two big Atlantic-10 conference victories for Richmond. Furthermore, he has been a major factor in Richmond being ranked in the National Top 25 poll for the first time since 1986.

The Spiders went 6-1 in the month of February, with their only loss coming in double OT to #24 ranked Xavier. They currently sit in second place in the A-10 Standings, only one game back of Xavier and Temple. Most experts consider Richmond a lock for a bid to the NCAA Tournament later this month.

Gonzalvez has enjoyed a stellar career at Richmond where he will rank as one of the all-time greats to ever play for the Spiders. He is currently number six on the schools all-time scoring list with over 1600 career points. He is also third in all-time made 3-pointers as well as being third in career steals.
